Interesting Siouxsie and the Banshees Facts and Pictures

Robert Smith joined the band for about a year as the Banshees’ guitarist. He contributed to their album Hyaena.

Since he left the band in the middle of their tour, she holds a grudge against Smith.

Their hit song “Kiss Them For Me” is an ode to actress Jayne Mansfield. The lyrics make several references to her, including heart-shaped swimming pool and her love of parties. The actress also starred in a movie called Kiss Them For Me.

Mindless Self Indulgence sampled the music from “Happy House” for their song “Bitches.”

Siouxsie Sioux does not like the video for “Swimming Horses.” Sioux claims the shots of the band were awful thanks to a new camera man hired by Tim Pope. She wanted a re-shoot, but time and fiances didn’t allow it.

Even though the title is deceiving, “Candyman” is actually about child abuse. Speaking to Melody Maker in 1992, Siouxsie states: Candyman’ was trying to put across the unspeakability of child abuse, and again, trying not to sensationalise it, just coming up with a very strong picture of a character that was sickly sweet and oozing repulsiveness.  The amount of people who’ve been abused is incredible, and it’s only lately that the subject’s been brought out into the open. The whole thing’s such a power trip, and you realise the victims must have been so in fear of saying anything – cos they’ve been told by the perpetrator that they’ll go to hell or something.”
